the trees have just begun to turn in nashville. luckily, i had a chance to capture a few on film this afternoon.
backyard ticket for one, please.

when i was in high school, i took a literature class that spent a quarter studying symbolism. this was right around the time “what dreams may come” hit theatres and is probably a good explanation as to why it’s still one of my favorite movies today. i love that there’s an underlying theme separate from the script. color can speak volumes without words.
as an artist, one of the most difficult questions i can be asked is “what’s your favorite color?” this changes almost daily. but today. well, today my favorite is green. green breathes life. refreshment. rejuvenation. the wintry brown is inevitably coming, but green holds a promise that rebirth will follow. green is hopeful. and my backyard is full of it.
today is one of those perfect summer days where the heat index finally cuts us a little slack. the sky is bright blue with the purest white clouds scattered about. and i am perfectly content just staying at home enjoying nature’s finest art show.

today.
25 07 2008i have had ridiculous fun with my new journal today. i’ll post some of my “creative chaos” when i get around to scanning it.
after two hours or so, i decided to take a break. i got up, smelling like fire (read: the “burn this page” assignment) and my hands covered in pink, purple and blue magic marker ink and walked outside. i’m not sure why i do this, but i always look up at the sky when i’m taking a walk. i love that it never looks the same. today, the clouds were doing this rippling pattern across the sky. it seemed as if they were making their own art, which left me smiling.
